Thursday, January 10, 2019 · 8am - 12:30pm EST

Location

Second Harvest Food Bank

136 Harvest Lane Maryville, TN 37801

Description

The Institute of Medicine describes social determinants of health as the conditions in the environments in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. The CDC estimates social determinants of health make up 75% of the population's health. Addressing these barriers to health as a community will be crucial to seeing East Tennessee make well-being a way of life.

The Greater Knoxville Health Advisory Board will host a Social Determinants of Health Summit focused on sharing knowledge and addressing the Social Determinants of Health which impact our community. Please make plans to join us on January 10th at the Second Harvest of East Tennessee Food Bank for this informative event. We will hear from local community and regional leaders on how they're screening and researching social determinants of health, introducing it into their workflows and connecting individuals to services.

During this Summit, we will offer an accredited continuing education course on Social Determinants of Health. This one hour continuing education credit will cover the CDC’s quality of life measurement, Healthy Days, and loneliness & social isolation and food insecurity and the impact of both on health. Continuing education credits will be available for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and social workers. Social workers and pharmacists need to have registered by December 26th to receive credit.

A light breakfast and box lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so register today! We look forward to seeing you there on Thursday, January 10th.
